The studio’s founder, Jonghwan Baek, drew inspiration from leather and its malleability, imagining a sheet of it cutting into the building and organizing the space with draping panels. With its large bay windows, the facade opens to the district, revealing the full, welcoming atmosphere with its variety of palettes and materials.
Leather covers the seating—a look that is perfectly reproduced through optical illusion on a ceramic table. The table is the work of ceramist Dasol Lee, who used a time-perfected artisanal technique to mimic the texture of the material for which Polène is known. This Ginkgo-wood furniture was carved by cabinetmaker Jungjoo Im and also demonstrates Polène's commitment to promoting local craftmanship.
Upstairs, customers can step into a “Photobloom” photobooth, accessorized with large leather flowers, to snap photos of themselves in an immersive natural landscape which characterizes Polène.
