Upcycling and innovation have transformed Polène leather off-cuts into the first bag from the Plèi collection. The sun-kissed “Solé” model with its leather detailing takes its inspiration from net bags and the traditional technique of macramé.
Leather off-cuts with pebble-pearls
Leather off-cuts from Polène’s collections are sorted by color before being ground into a fine sand. This sand is then combined with a biosourced polymer to create a material that gives each pearl its definitive, nuanced appearance. A custom mold was created to give the pearls their organic shape. The leather sand is heated to a high temperature, resulting in pebble-pearls with a slightly marbled appearance and soft lines that are reminiscent of water-polished stones.
“Solé” celebrates the meticulous artisanship of macramé. Threaded onto waxed cotton cording, the 240 leather pearls create a mesh with 120 handmade knots. The bag’s base and handle are covered with stitched smooth leather, reflecting the leather goods expertise of artisans in Ubrique, Spain.
